Outsourced Controller Services in Kentucky
Part-time controller services for Southeastern Kentucky companies from a CPA who has been a controller: month-end close, budgets and forecasts, internal controls, lender and investor reporting, and audit readiness, without a full-time salary.
An outsourced controller gives a company the judgment of an experienced accounting manager without the full-time salary. I've been the controller for companies with investors, auditors, and a publicly traded parent, and I provide the same oversight on a part-time basis: a clean month-end close, budgets and forecasts, internal controls, and reports written for owners, lenders, and boards.
When a business needs a controller
Usually it's one of three things. The bookkeeper is good at entering transactions but nobody is reviewing the results. The bank or an investor is asking for reports the business can't produce. Or the owner is making decisions off the bank balance because the real numbers are weeks behind. A controller fixes all three.
What I do as your controller
I close the books every month on a schedule, review what the bookkeeper entered, reconcile every account, and produce financial statements with notes. I build the annual budget and keep a forecast current. I set up the controls that protect the business from errors and fraud. I handle the reporting your lender or investors require, and I get the company ready for audits and tax season. If you need a new accounting system, I've led conversions to NetSuite and others.
You keep your bookkeeper if you have one. I make their work better and I'm the person you call when a number doesn't look right.
What it costs compared to hiring
A full-time controller in this region is a real salary plus benefits. Most businesses under a certain size need that expertise for a few days a month, not forty hours a week. The outsourced model gives you the expertise and skips the rest.
What people ask.
If your question isn’t here, call and ask. I’d rather talk it through than have you guess.
It depends on the size of the business and the state of the books. Most engagements settle into a predictable number of days a month, priced in writing up front.
